Questions/ Activities

The cards below are a combination of diagrams and microscopic pictures of various organelles. Try and match the organelle to its correct pair.

1. Which organelles would be in high quantities if the cell required:

  1. a lot of energy
  2. to manufacture proteins
  3. to carry out photosynthesis

2.  Describe what would happen to a cell if you were to remove the:

  1. Nucleus
  2. Ribosomes
  3. Plasma membrane
  4. Chlorophyll

3. What is the function of the cell wall? How does this differ from the function of the cell membrane?

4. Draw a plant and animal cell side by side and colour in the organelles. Make sure you colour the same organelle the same colour in both. For example, if you colour the nucleus red in the animal cell, colour it red in the plant cell. Once you have drawn the cells, describe what is difference between a plants and animals on a cellular level.

5. What is the advantage and disadvantage of having a cell wall around a cell?

6. How do forensic scientists use cells?

Are you a teacher?
