The water cycle

LO: Explain the water cycle

As you learnt in the previous section, water can change into different states. This is important to know since water in found in all 3 states all over the world. Without waters ability to change states, life as we know it wouldn’t exist.

All over the earth water is constantly moving through the 3 states, this is known as the water cycle. Regardless of if the water becomes a liquid or gas or freezes, there’s always a set amount of water in the environment. This is an important part of the water cycle.

Select each ‘i’ icon for more information on what is happening in the water cycle.

About 71 % of the Earth’s surface is covered by water, and the oceans hold about 96.5 % of all the Earth’s water!

Of all the water on Earth only 3% is drinkable, and 67% of that is frozen in glaciers.
That means only 1.2 % of the water on Earth is drinkable and accessible to us!
